Induction loops
ABOUT THE HEARING LOOP SYSTEM
A hearing loop or induction loop is a hearing aid system for the hearing-impaired using a magnetic induction loop.
With this system, the sound from a speaker's microphone, PA equipment, TV set, etc. is transmitted wirelessly to the hearing aid of the person, who can hear it without being disturbed by any ambient noise.
This system is mainly used in public places (conference rooms, cinemas, courts, churches, counters, etc.)
A large number of conventional hearing aids incorporate the "T" loop function.
Hearing loops are mainly installed in rooms.
The installation consists of an electrical wire that travels around the perimeter of the room thus forming a loop. This loop is connected to an audio amplifier. The hearing aid has a coil, often called "T" or "T-coil".
This coil, placed inside the hearing aid, is also made of a wire that makes a large number of turns.
MAGNETIC FIELD
The magnetic field generated by the large loop around the room will cross the small loops in the hearing aid and, by the principle of induction, the electrical signal present in the large loop will end up in the small ones.
This is how the signal from the audio amplifi er is transmitted to the hearing aid, which will then return it to the ear of the hearing-impaired person.
REGULATIONS
The 2005 - 102 Act of 11 February 2005 sets out the requirement for public establishments to be accessible to people with disabilities before 1 January 2018
This obviously applies to establishments open to the public, such as:
Administrative and cultural facilities,
Health buildings,
Sports facilities,
But also supermarkets, cinemas, public transport, etc.
Facilities must comply with the standard: EN 60118-4:
Background noise (electromagnetic pollution) must be <32 dB at 400 mA/m
The magnetic fi eld must be between +/- 3 dB for a signal from 1 kHz to 400 mA/m
The frequency response must be 100 Hz - 5 kHz at +/- 3dB
- 3 systems
- 2 measuring instruments
- 2 copper ribbons to create the loops
